Another new character has come to CastleVille this week: Ulrich, a master blacksmith who was famous for his forging abilities before the Gloom came. He's heard of your efforts to fight the Gloom and wants to offer his talents. Along with his appearance in your kingdom comes a series of 10 new quests, and the introduction of Workshop mastery to your game. Similar to Cooking mastery, Workshop mastery will allow you to craft recipes more easily than before. Here's a complete guide to finishing these Forging Ahead quests!
Tall, Dark and Fearsome
- Collect 3 Stone
- Have 10 Walls
It doesn't matter which kinds of walls you have, so you'll likely have that step completing automatically. It also doesn't matter how you earn the stone, so long as you earn three additional stone on top of what you currently have in your inventory. For finishing this quest, you'll receive 500 coins and 10 XP.
Dirty Deeds
- Have 3 Scrub Brushes
- Have 5 Pails of Water
- Chop Trees 8 Times
The Scrub Brushes are earned via a general news post on your wall. For finishing this quest, you'll not only give Ulrich a bath, but you'll also receive another 500 coins and 10 XP.
Building a Foundation
- Build Ulrich's House
- Have 1 Workshop
- Craft 3 Mortar
The Mortar recipe will appear in your Workshop as you reach this quest. Once you've completed these three tasks, you'll receive 750 coins and 15 XP for completing the entire quest.
Brick by Brick
- Craft 7 Mortar
- Gather Materials 6 Times
- Tend 8 Crafting Buildings in your Neighbors' Kingdoms
The Materials task here asks you to collect Nails, Cloth and the like from different buildings in your Kingdom. As for the 7 Mortar, this will make you earn Level 1 Mastery of the recipe when all is said and done. You'll receive 1,000 coins, 20 XP and the Blacksmith's Anvil decoration for completing this quest.

- Craft 2 Hammers
- Have 2 Hypercrafts
- Buy a Smelter
Rewards: 1,000 coins and 20 XP
Smelting Pot
- Construct the Smelter
- Mine Rocks 16 Times in Neighbors' Kingdoms
- Collect from 3 Mining Camps in your Kingdom
Rewards: 1,000 coins and 20 XP
Steely Resolve
- Craft 5 Steel Bars
- Harvest 12 Crops
- Have 6 Chisels
Rewards: 1,500 coins, 30 XP and 2 Iron Benches
Test Your Metal
- Craft enough Steel Bars to reach Mastery Level 1 (5 more)
- Craft 2 Steel Swords
- Have a Blacksmith
Rewards: 1,750 coins and 35 XP
Heavy Meddling
- Use 2 Steel Swords
- Banish 2 Gloom Thieves!
- Collect 8 Fine Wire
Rewards: 1,000 coins and 20 XP
Obey Your Master?
- Reach Mastery Level 1 for 3 additional Workshop Recipes
- Have 3 Workshops
Rewards: Male and Female Blacksmith's Shirt, Male and Female Blacksmith's Apron, 1,750 coins and 35 XP
These quests don't come with a time limit, so feel free to take your time earning recipe mastery once you've unlocked it in your game. There are plenty of recipes to choose from, and these quests will be there whenever you'd like to work on them, so don't let yourself become overwhelmed by the high requirements.
