The news comes by way of EA's service updates page, which tells us that FIFA Superstars on both Facebook and iOS will be shut down on March 31. A company blog post confirms the news, but doesn't offer any explanation outside of what we'd expect: that the game simply wasn't popular enough to keep supporting.
"Please note that on March 31st 2013, EA sports will be shutting down FIFA Superstars on Facebook, iPhone, iPod touch and iPad platforms. This is occurring because we occasionally have to retire games in order to re-allocate our resources to newer or more popular titles."
Any premium currency that you may have purchased for FIFA Superstars will disappear on March 31, as EA has decided against allowing you to transfer it to another game. While this definitely gives you the opportunity to clear out your current virtual wallet on items that you may have always had your eye on, you'll unfortunately only get to enjoy them for a couple more months.
Are you disappointed to see FIFA Superstars closed on either Facebook or mobile? Were you a fan of the game on either platform? Sound off in the comments!
