Ayakashi, which has been available on Japanese app stores for quite a few months now, allows players to battle various ghostly creatures (Ayakashi) in order to capture and transform into demons (Shikigami). Of course, players can then take those demons and duke it out with their buddies online. As VentureBeat points out, these games are huge in Japan, and are quickly gaining steam in the U.S. with hits like Rage of Bahamut.
"We're very excited about expanding to RPGs and bringing these games to the global market," Zynga games GM Scott Koenigsberg told VentureBeat. "Here in the U.S., the RPG market has blossomed recently. It may have been an underserved market here."
Zynga promises that Ayakashi will launch globally on mobile devices "soon". Buckle up, DeNA and GREE, you might enter some turbulence.
