If you look at this month's AppData chart for the top 25 Facebook games (daily players), it looks almost as if Zynga is beset on all sides by the competition. Smack in the middle of the FarmVille maker's domination of the charts are King.com's Bubble Witch Saga and Candy Crush Saga in in fifth and sixth place as well as Wooga's Diamond Dash in the seven spot. Then a new challenger appears.FreshPlanet, with its mega hit SongPop, encroaches upon Zynga's waning stranglehold on the top 10 with 3.1 million daily players in 11th place. There's no denying that these games are on this list because they're popular with the players. But the fact that games like CityVille and Hidden Chronicles are on the slide--to the tune of 700,000 and 500,000 daily players, respectively--certainly gives them a hefty nudge.
Other notable newcomers to the list in daily players, which is, frankly, the most reliable measure for reach, are Social Point's Dragon City with 2.2 million daily players in spot 17, Pool Live Tour by Geewa with 2.1 million and Playfish and EA's SimCity Social in 23rd place with 1.7 million daily players. Given recent events surrounding Zynga, the FarmVille best watch its back.
